I'm a fan of Chris Hall, but surely Nick Hayes ranks higher at the Eagles alone, much less the SANFL as a whole.

31- 40.

If Jono Beech is only the 37th best player in the SANFL, I'll give up.

Having said that, Zac's doing a great job with this and opinions vary.

However, if Jono Beech is only the 37th best player in the SANFL, I'll give up.

I rate Nick Hayes in the Eagles top 5 maybe 3. Lonergan has not played a SANFL match yet so how can he be there.

I disagree with you. I go and watch all Eagles matches and Chris Hall for the last three years has been very, very consistent, just about always in the best players. Godden loved him as a wingman. Also, is a very good kick for goal. Nick Hayes can be a bit inconsistent. Unfortunately both can't kick a bag of goals in the same match. Nick is a great kick for goal. Nick is quite undersized for the position he plays but makes the most of his opportunities. Would have Chris hall ahead of him. Hall always finishes ahead of N. Hayes in the B&F.

As an opposition supporter I would think that Hayes would be the more dangerous player out of the two

I am maybe making this WWTFC focused a bit but I agree with you bayman. To top his off Zac has Jack Hayes and Jimmy Toumpas in the 20-30 range. I believe Nick is the better of the brothers but JT's choice is not based on recent form.

I am not sure how media people go about these ranking exercises.

But I would tackle it by ranking players team by team first and then sorting out an overall order.

As we know they are always subjective, but I assume they are trying to get to the best players in terms of value to the team based on form.

After the full list is published, it would be interesting to see how they are ranked team by team and whether supporters agree.

Maybe we can do that here?

All that said, I would have Aidan Riley above Mark Evans. Riley is the engine room of the Blues midfield and in a lot of ways acts like a barometer to how the team is travelling. Hopefully this season he can get through the season unscathed by the various injuries he has had over the last 2 years.

Yep, I always view Sturt as much harder to beat if a fit Riley is out there, Battersby too. That's not to downplay Kirkwood btw who is faultless with effort and workrate every week

I'm sorry "goddy11" but I'm going to disagree with you again, I feel Jack Hayes is more important to the Eagles attack than Nick (but love the both of them). Jack playing at CHF gives the attack a lot more structure and competitiveness. Jack always seems to be battling 2 or 3 opponents. His strong fearless marking is a weapon, unfortunately his kicking for goal lets him down. Last season Nick kicked 32 goals from 21 games and Jack 38 from 21 games. Jack can also do some rucking but I do not like him doing this as it puts him in line for more battering. Nick is an excellent kick for goal and looks a smoother player, also plays well as a loose man in defence but overall I think Jack is more important to the Eagles.

Surely Zac Milbank cant be serious having Trav Schiller at no 14 on his list.He must have just had a heap of names thrown them in the air and see where they landed or he has no idea about the game.Trav has been clearly our best player in the last 3 seasons and missed the Magarey last year by 1 BOG vote in a team that struggled. How he could not be top ten is a joke.

Agreed, Phil, then I see Kaine Stevens at only 13. The top 10 are going to have to be good if he can't make it.

PS: Rough guess that the No 1 player is from Norwood. Smile

It's all opinion and Zac's done a good job, but I think he's over-rating the returning AFL players a bit.

I'd be interested in people's views on who the best key forwards are.

If the top 50 and Mason Middleton were up for grabs, I'd guarantee he'd be picked up by other clubs a long way before 51. Probably in the best 2 marking forwards in the comp?

Agree Lee overrating returning players. From my club Goldy and Johansen glowing omissions.

as Lee said it is just an opinion but what Zac has created a discussion point so that's a great thing in itself, as for goddy11's statement i presume you mean ''glaring omissions'' i'm not sure Goldsworthy is now but 3 or so years ago absolutely & i actually think he's better suited up forward such is his versatility but with Johansen nah, handy player no doubt but there's a few that have gone past him imho

Thanks Bayman. That's what you get with a couple of glasses of wine when typing. I rate Johansen, absolute match winner.
