Post by bayman on Tue Jun 21, 2016 9:43 pm

i've copy & pasted a part wiki page but blanked out the name......so who is it ? i'm positive a few of you will know

In his 1979 autobiography ********, the long-time tennis promoter and great player himself, who brought *********** into professional tennis, wrote that "********* was one of the weakest players but one of the nicest guys who ever played for me in the pros. As nearly as I could tell, all he wanted to do was save up some money, go back Down Under and play Australian-rules football, which in fact, he played better than he did tennis. And that's what he did."

so who is it ?

i'll tip at least one person will have the answer before i log on tomorrow night

Anyone of my generation would have known that. I just missed seeing Ken McGregor play for West. My earliest memories of footy are from 1959 when I was 4. I don't know whether he played that year. We all know he played in 1958.

Ken McGregor was as well known as any sporting identity in Adelaide at that stage. He had a sports store in the city, McGregor and Clements and had a strong interest in the Squash Centre at Bowden just by the railway line on Hawker Street.

Ok a new one.

Started SANFL career in 1973 after coming across from Claremont.

Spent 4 years at a club south of the GPO before joining a western club in 1977.

Was known as a 'hard man' and minded a few of the 1970s better known players, including his bunch of fives getting up close and personal with Peter Woite's chin. Apparently he's still dodging and weaving the good detective.

Played about 70 games across the 2 clubs.

I'd forgotten about this. But yes B&W, correct.
