Round 6: South v Adelaide - Sunday 1 May @ Hickinbotham Oval

Post by Brucetiki on Tue Apr 26, 2016 7:38 pm

South (2nd 4-0 61.00%) v Adelaide (1st 4-0 62.59%)
Sunday 1 May
Hickinbotham Oval

Reserves (South v Eagles) 11:10am
League: 2:10pm

Both sides have had perfect starts to the season. Not only is this the match of the round but would most likely be one of the matches of the season to date. Who will emerge as the sole undefeated team?

Going to be a tough one.

Need to be completely on our game. Reckon we are one of the fittest sides of the non-AFL sides in our comp. Can we run a full game out against full time professional players ?? We will see.

South by 2 goals.

Coming off a bye so our legs will be fresh. Adelaide loves our big oval, though.

Our biggest test of all. Glenelg pushed them all the way last Sunday but the Crows hated being cramped and were forced into errors on the small wings they wouldn't normally be forced into at Noarlunga.

i'll tell you this not all but a vast majority of Crow players didn't like the contest & man on man scenario

I like the look of South this year, but a full strength Adelaide looks too strong. Crows by 4 goals.

They didn't like the contest but still won by 5 goals. Fair effort that.

I'm a bit conflicted by this game. I hope South get up actually. Will be a cracking game I reckon.

Hope South can do the biz, but think Adelaide might be too slick and strong.

WOOHOO go Panthers!!

South kicked 9 of the last 11 goals, including the last six.

So much for the AFL sides being able to run out matches.

Some pretty telling stats after Adelaide kicked a goal to lead by 41 10 mins into the third. It's like they just stopped, thought the job was done. Stopped tackling, couldn't get the ball, struggled to get inside 50...

Q3 10m - FINISH
Disposals - South 160, Adelaide 120
Efficiency - South 83%, Adelaide 65%
Eff. Disposals - South 133, Adelaide 78
Tackles - South 22, Adelaide 8
Inside 50s - South 28, Adelaide 12
Score - South 9.4, Adelaide 2.4

24:34
Overall goals
SA 13-7
AC 13-12

29:50
Bass kicked the winning goal, and may have 'booked' SA a finals spot ,a double chance, perhaps the minor premiership
SA 14-7
defeated
AC 13-12

There was a 5 minute gap between the Overall to the Bass goal
Did AC have any opportunities to score in that period ?

Also how long after the Bass goal did the siren go ?

Just arrived home.
IMO Souths best home and away win since the Darren Harris game way back in 1984- yes I am that old. Bass goals from 45m after receiving a free kick with 3 secs left on the clock, the Panthers hit the front by a point for the first time in the contest.Siren sounds- game over!
A win for the true believers. Very Happy

well, well, well.......still in awe of what I have witnessed today.

We were pretty well gone with 41 points down in the 3rd quarter but I actually thought we were playing some decent footy.
The signs though ahead were looking like a 10 goal thrashing. The South boys just did not give up. Fierce, desperate and determined to the end. This game is up there with one of the most incredible wins I have ever witnessed by the club (since Darren Harris's 1984 goal after the siren over Port).

Hard to pick a best for us as all players did there bit......mentions to Cailetto, Barnes, Eddy and Rose.

I think it was when we were 3 goals down in the last quarter I thought we were on to something here !!! Crows are such a imposing side - physically. Big huge bodies, fit and very slick with skills. Their down fall is they go the absolute $hit when they are challenged with pressure and by a physical contest. They fumbled and absolutely hated the South fury we unleashed on them !!!!! We were brutal with our attack on the footy.

One highlight was after the siren sounded. South supporters high fiving, hugging and being so happy. (never seen Noarlunga so crazy like that) We know there is not many of us but bloody hell we are some of the most passionate supporters out there. I think we were all a bit shell shocked we won !!!

Last word - one of the most disappointing things about the game was when I attempted to go into the South change rooms to sing the club song. I was refused by Welso security (who had his arms held out wide stopping supporters entering) I explained I am just going in the South change rooms. Welso security explained that he has been instructed not to let anyone enter. I explained I go in every week but got told the Crows coaching staff instructed no people to come though at all. What a bloody disgrace......and you have to wonder why we seen 2 rules made. One for AFL sides and the other for the 8 SANFL sides. Absolute joke!!!!

Another interesting incident from todays game during the 2nd quarter. Dear from the Crows and Tarak Redigolo from South suffered a serious head clash, both went to ground. Dear got up blood streaming from his face, the umpire stopped the game for the blood rule. Dear was helped from the ground by the flotilla of Crows support staff, with Redigolo still prone on the ground. Redigolo got to his feet, groggy with the assistance of a couple of trainers; the umpire signaled for the game to recommence even though Redigolo had blood streaming from a gash in his ear (which would see him receive 12 stitches) if it was'nt for the fact that the Grandstand erupted and nearly fell on the field umpire the game would have continued. Clear to see where run of the mill sanfl players come in the scheme of things...

SA...3.2....5-3...8-4...14-7 [91]
AC...4-3...8-7...13-9...13-12 [90]

Todays game makes up for this game !
September 1964
PA....1-0....5-4.....7-5.....14-8 [92]
SA... 4-6...8-10...11-13...13-13[91]

That was the last game that South lost in 1964

Quite a remarkable similarity in the 2 games
1 point victories
1 point difference in the total points scored

Prelim Final
SA 14-12
ST 8-7

Grand Final
PA 5-12
SA 9-15

Port in that 1964 Grand Final and Western Sydney Wanderers in todays A League Grand Final had something in common

All credit to South, particularly coming from behind in the last quarter against an opponent stacked with AFL players. Really looking forward to the Sturt v South game at Unley on May 14. Let's hope for a fine day and a bumper crowd.
