Not playing yesterday has nothing to do with anything other than the fact he limped from the ground in the 3rd quarter last week with a recurring hamstring injury, something that has bothered him for several seasons. If people want to read anything else into it, they can please themselves.

I don't think there's much problem with him not playing yesterday, AH.

I think the point has been made about past absences from West games.

I'm sure there's nothing in it, but it has been noted before.

As I said, people can please themselves how they view it. I'd rather just stick to facts.

Just having a laugh AH. I know Luke is injury-prone, particularly in the soft tissue department. Smile

Spelly, how many sides have kicked 100 points or more in a winning game at Elizabeth in recent years, please?

West did this year, but presumably it has been a rare occurrence?

Port in 2000, Eagles in 2001, Norwood in 2003, Glenelg in 2008, Sturt in 2010, West in 2012, Centrals repeatedly every #$%^&@ year.

Congrats on joining the club, West. You were in the minority of clubs that hadn't done it this century. Wink

hi Spelly,
how many times (if any) has two teams gone out in 'straight sets' in a final series ? obviously this year Central have & West might, so i'm wondering if it's happened in the past or not

I recall 1982 when minor premier Port Adelaide clost the 2nd Semi and Prelim, and Sturt lost the QF and 1st Semi.

If you remember 1982, the two glamour teams all season were Port and Sturt, the media just loved them. We were told all year that Norwood weren't in the same league as those two, so when we doused them out in the finals, it was rather satisfying.

You are quite right about the Prelim, it made life easier for Norwood, but I think we would have won anyway.

Two teams can only go out in straight sets in a final 5 if the Elimination Final winner makes the Grand Final, and the Minor Premier does not. 1982 and 1991 are the only occasions this has happened.

Not sure if this the best place to ask this. Norwood have gone out in straight sets in the under 18's the last three years in 2013, 2012 and 2011. In 2010 they didnt make the finals. The coach has been David Oatey.

I am fairly sure he coached the under 17's prior. Do you have the finals record for his under 17 teams??

It's time for a SANFL history question that would take ages/be impossible to answer for anyone without all the data to hand, but for spelly, it'll be easy!

Norwood's amazing defensive run over the last 12 matches has me wondering: when was the last time that a team has gone 12 weeks, without letting the opposition score 10 goals? And what's the longest ever that a team has maintained that defensive achievement?

By the looks of it (if australianfootball.com's records are right) South and Port both did it for several years starting in 1897, at a time when low scores were the order of the day and it was comparatively rare for a side to ever kick 10 goals. Of course, within a few decades there was Ken Farmer...

Last time was Sturt between Rd 3 1923 and the 2nd Semi of that year (13 matches)

The record is Port between Round 2 1911 and Round 13 1915 - 68 matches.

As far as South and Port starting with 1897, South did not have 10+ goals against them until Round 2 1901 (60 matches) and Port in the second of the sectional finals matches in 1899 - 43 matches

Many apologies ca, I did not see this question until now. In actual fact, I've been asked this question in the past by someone else. If I can find the conversation where I was able to find the years he coached the Under 17s (since I don't remember them) I can answer it for you.

Norwood made the Under 17s finals twice after 2001:

2006 - EF Eagles 14.13 Norwood 10.13
2007 - QF North 14.11 Norwood 8.7
2007 - 1SF Port 19.16 Norwood 11.4

And in fact, also went out in straight sets in 2001, the last victory Norwood had in finals at that level was the 2nd Semi in 1999.

Hello. I came across your site while researching my grandfather Cecil Frederick Roy Zeugofsge who played for North Adelaide in the 1920s I believe.

I would be grateful if you would amend your spelling of his surname from Zeugofage (as you have it) to ZEUGOFSGE which is the correct spelling. He was known all his life as "Fred".

Thank you
