Sad news. I can still remember him being a surprise winner of the '67 Magarey Medal. I'm stretching my memory but I think he polled in only 7 games that year, but they were all BOGs, so he won with 21 votes. Historians feel free to correct me.

A great football name, from a great football club. Bubbles will be missed by many I am sure.

His father,Ken, brother Peter and his nephew Andrew ( one of my favorites growing up in the early 80's ) all played at SANFL level with distinction and his grandson, Brad Ebert, currently represents the club on the national stage with pride.

Vale Bubbles.

1967 MAGAREY MEDAL

Hopefully what Im posting is accurate enough :
Was actually a dead heat
Trevor Obst and Don  Lindner polled 18 votes
Obst polled 4 best on grounds and was awarded the medal
Lindner polled 3 best on grounds and won his medal retrospectively

It ended up being an exciting finish to the counting
The votes were given in order of all 1 votes -all 2 votes-all 3 votes
With 2 lots of 3 votes left , the leader was Barrie Robran
Robran was 2 votes in front
Obst got 3 votes
Lindner got 3 votes
Barrie Robran was beaten by one vote

Lindner was expected to win the medal quite easily
He scooped many or all of the media awards
Without knowing what games they polled in , it might have been that Lindner and Robran took votes off each other ?
Obst to win was an exceptional effort after missing about 6 games with a broken wrist during the season
