3,000+ parents & kids in a junior footy carnival conducted prior to the league match last week, then this week it looked on paper that the result was a mere formality....which it was

1600 for the carnival. Approx 3,000 turned up for the game v Crows last week, we did a LOT of promotion of the Crows match outside of the carnival.

Interestingly, we did a letter box drop around the oval as we do each season with a 2 free tickets as a thank you for the disruption during our home games

This time we gave them the option of either Eagles v Crows last Sunday or Eagles v North yesterday.

Still to get exact figure but it looks like about 6/7 chose the Crows game, 1/7 chose the North match.

There were just as many South fans a few weeks ago than there were North fans this week

And this is it, the final figures for 2015 compared to 1997 through to 2014. At least we have a nice app that people with capable phones can use now

At the same point this year, the average is 2451 - that's nearly 1000 less per game than what we were getting 5 years ago

Re kids carnival questions

- statement was from last year ... no electronic ticketing then.

- kids had no free tickets, kids don't need free tickets

- crows AFL ticketed members don't pay to get in

- parents received free tickets to watch their kids play (as they do for mini league and afl auskick/little league matches)

- we also targeted a range of community groups with free tickets including local letter box drop.

re getting a count .. last 3 years we have asked SANFL for a count around 11.15am which is when all the carnival teams are underway and still 3 hours to main game. It gives us a guide.

This year with electronic ticketing we got figure at same time, it just broke it down a bit better.

Do these figures show it depends on which club is performing well ?

I can't see how that has too much bearing over the last two years. Certainly not to that extent where they are by far and away the lowest.

I'll give you something about what I mean.  For the club which should do well for numbers, the highest attendance Sturt has had this year was in Round 1.  They've won every match since then, but haven't got more than 3386.

AFTER 13 ROUNDS SANFL ATTENDANCES
Average of crowds from 2010-2016
% Gain or Drop in brackets after crowds
Stats from todays Advertiser press article

2010...3434
2011...3465
2012...3130
2013...2942
2014...2799
2015...2614
2016...2486

AFTER 13 ROUNDS HOME CROWDS SINCE INDUCTION OF THE AFL RESERVES TEAMS
CD +15%
ST + 6%
EG + 2%
GL -10%
SA -18%
NW -25%
NA -31%
WA -33%
PA -36%

2014-2016
NW + WA have won flags since the AFL teams came in, yet have dropped significantly in crowd percentages
CD has the BIGgest gain in the last 3 seasons

So why has CD improved crowd attendances when some others are dropping off ?

MINOR ROUND ATTENDANCE
My above post was stats from 2010-2016
In that period of time , and depending how many minor round games are played
I consistently go to about 10-12 Norwood games
I go to about 6-8 neutral games
Its my entertainment , I love watching Aussie Rules football

The AFL reserves teams has not made a difference to my attendance
However , a few of my pals have either stopped going , or they have  limited their appearances
They basically refuse to go because of the AFL reserves bizzo
Thats their prerogative , I do understand their stance
Most of them are Glenelg barrackers , Paul, Matthew and Neil who read our posts

W, you have stated particularly West, South and the Eagles as having low support impacting on club viability and also finals attendances.

You seem not to accept what Phil has been offering this site and this topic for some time now.
I wouldn't have thought he would offer them, if he doesn't believe they are right and show a trend.

If these stats are supposedly incorrect or irrelevant or "made up", by what measure are we supposed to assess crowd attendance across the competition that is relevant?

Should we go on noise? Or beer sales or BBQ revenue or something else?

I really struggle to understand your point on this, I am afraid.
