36ers
The 36ers played consistently well to beat NZ today.
The old panic mode under pressure is still there, though.
All hail Gibson. who was better than superb.

A great win for the 36rs, better than watching the jelly backs.

Correct, The 36ers have grabbed Brock Motum who was delisted from the NBA last week. Motum played for Australia at the recent World Champoionships. They had to de-list one of their imports to have room under the "player points" system.

with respect to CK & other basketball enthusiasts, i ask is basketball relevant in this country anymore ? it seemed to be on tv all the time whether free or fox & i never come across it anymore when channel surfing, it is almost a hidden sport these days

You will find it 0n 10 on a sunday afternoon from 2pm and on ONE on Friday night at 9.30pm all other matches our on the NBL website which you have to pay forbayman wrote:with respect to CK & other basketball enthusiasts, i ask is basketball relevant in this country anymore ? it seemed to be on tv all the time whether free or fox & i never come across it anymore when channel surfing, it is almost a hidden sport these days

Not sure what you are asking Bayman when you ask "is it relevant"
I watched them on free to air TV last week and as far as I know A lot of the games are on Fox. (I stand to be corrected on the Fox coverage)
Not a lot are on free to air and they are not live coverages but that doesn't worry me I still watch them when I can. The 36rs are programmed to be on again this Friday night at 9.30pm on ONE HD
Try asking about the relevance to the 6,500 that attended last nights home game, mind you they would all have been disappointed with the result.

Interesting one and I understand where you are coming from.
As Thiele rightly says, there is a game on ONE HD every Friday night at 9.30pm (delayed if played on Eastern seaboard, often live if it's the Perth Wildcats at home), and a Sunday 2pm game on Ten, either 1/2 hour delay or live also. In addition, NBL.TV streams all games live through their own internet streaming service (I was fortunate enough to be flown to Cairns last year to call the Taipans play the Sydney Kings for NBL.TV).
There are still healthy crowds attending the games in all states and the subscription levels for NBL.TV are also steady. As a fan guide, the NBL Dreamteam competition has over 7,000 entrants. Sydney Kings have also lured one of the most highly credentialed players ever seen in the NBL, with Josh Childress, a 391 game player with four NBA clubs over 11 seasons, joining at the age of 31. Brock Motum elected to play with Adelaide after being cut by Utah Jazz some weeks ago and a number of other players would cut it at NBA D-League level strongly.
Boti Nagy does a fantastic job in covering the league through both the Advertiser and his own website (www.botinagy.com), keeping the awareness level high in the city that is generally acknowledged interstate and by NBL players and coaches as the most knowledgeable basketball city in Australia.
Overall, I'd say the game is a healthy state, although not the halcyon days of the 1980's - but many sports could say the same. A night at Adelaide Arena to watch the 36ers is still a great night out and well worth the trip, particularly with the entertaining (last week aside) style they play.

Re: 36ers
thanks, it isn't on foxtel (as far as i know) anymore, i don't have a HD tv & well Sundays fair enough but usually i'm not watching any tv at that time of the day, will keep an eye out in the future & there would be no way in the world i'd be buying it on their website
ps, bring back Ken Cole

Another loss to the 36rs on Friday night with there defence getting a pasting by the Wildcats.
The Wildcats scored 9 three pointers from 16 attempts and this was the difference, Adelaide couldn't nail there 3 pointers.

Re: 36ers
I think one of the problems with the NBL is that so many players have played for numerous teams.
It also seems that it's impossible to keep your good juniors and they finish up playing for another team.
In the 'good old days' of the 36ers success, they seemed to have several long-term local players, with 2 regular good imports and stability.
Seems like a different team every year now.

It might still be their 999th.
They turned up in Townsville last night, but I don't know if you could count it as playing.
Ordinary lot.

I know this is a little late but the win over the Perth Wildcats on Friday night was a great team effort, not been a good hunting ground for Adelaide in the past, and maybe they are on the way back.
Having said that today's match against Wollongong at home is a must win.

Re: 36ers
I have been critical of this team many times, but their win against Perth was gutsy and full credit to them.
They led Wollongong by about 12 or 14 in the last quarter yesterday, then had to defend a 1 point lead in the last minute.
If they get Daniel Johnson back, they're a big threat if they make the finals.

I forgot to mention that Lee, replacing the injured BJ Anthony (Achilles) with Daniel Johnson would be a very good get.

A very close away win to the 36rs against Wollongong, there 7th win by less than 10 points this season, but who cares. They won by 4 points and have now won 5 of 6 away games.
