Big day on the music calender

JOE MEEK
His first triumph was a song he produced called Telstar , a magnificent instrumental recorded by the Tornados
This was a big start in his career in 1962
In 1967 he made a decision
He took a  shotgun from Heinz Burts house , used it to murder his Land Lady , and then shot himself on the fatal day of 3/2/67
A touch of irony concerned Heinz Burt
Heinz Burt was the Tornados bassist

3/2/1959
The day the music died
Buddy Holly, The BIG Bopper , Richie Valens and pilot Roger Peterson all died in a plane crash

This is the events that lead to that fateful flight
Those 4 guys and other musos were on a Winter Dance Party tour in America
They were travelling in an inadequate school bus , unsuitable for the harsh winter road conditions that prevailed
The bus would break down on an occasion or occasions, and was then replaced by another bus
The freezing cold temperatures took its affect on the boys as they were Playing In A Traveling band that would often perform a gig and then travel through the night to the next destination
A mishap was when the drummer, Carl Bunch , was taken to hospital with severe frost bite , he missed the rest of the tour , and maybe fortunately after what happened
The sister of Valens says she heard that the boys would light up papers on the bus, to keep warm
She also mentions that the teenage Valens had not been in snow before

Buddy Holly had enough, he asked his manager to charter a plane for him and 2 Crickets Waylon Jennings and Tommy Allsup
During the night the BIG Bopper convinced Jennings to give up his seat
After a the concert of that night , Richie Valens said he was not feeling well and wanted to fly
Allsup pulled a coin out of his pocket and :
" I'll flip you for it Ritchie"
" All right." was the response by Valens
Allsup tossed
Valens called heads
It came up heads
Richie won the fateful toss
Allup is still alive today at 83

Waylon Jennings, gave up his seat to the BIG Bopper
This is what Holly said to him, and the response from Jennings
" I hope your ol bus freezes up"
" Well I hope your plane crashes."
They were both jiving each other, only Jennings ends up having to live that reply for the rest of his life

Australian actor Norman Yemm has died, aged 81.

Norman Yemm, left, as Senior Detective Jim Patterson in Homicide.

the great Nigel Bruce would have turned 120 this week on February 4, while he didn't play Dr. Watson as he is written in Conan Doyles' books, he played it as written in the script & i enjoy his role & other roles i've seen him in too, like in a couple of the 1940's Lassie films one which had a young Elizabeth Taylor in it

Happy Birthday Nigel ''Willie'' Bruce

for those that are unsure, she played a character ''pussycat'' but not 'Catwoman', Eartha Kitt, Lee Meriwether & Julie Newmar played that role PUUURRRRFEECTTLYYY

Harry Cohn, the last of the ''movie tycoons'' (head of Columbia) passed away on this day in 1958 aged 66......i know he loved The Three Stooges & that is why he kept them there for many years & in fact were sacked after his death, apparently he was a brutal man & would abuse the actors, you can read more on his wiki & i suggest at least read the part about his funeral & what Red Skelton said

Aurthur Hohl (pronounced Hoil) died on this day at age 74 in 1964, he was a great character actor & i've enjoyed watching some of his charcters over the years, especially in my favourite Sherlock Holmes' film ''The Scarlet Claw'' starring Basil Rathbone & Nigel Bruce, Aurthur was in two other Sherlock Holmes' films as well, Namely ''The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes'' & ''The Spider Woman''

"When only the best will do" was the catch phrase from the Benson and Hedges cigarette commercials he did for that company.
Sadly he was stigmatised for the rest of his life for advertising a product that is still legal in this country.

Young Einstein was late home.
He had a 11:45pm  curfew , so he purposely came home at 3:00am on the dot
Mother was up and at him
" Your late ALbert."
" Mother , Im absolutely right on time , I said I would be home by a quarter of 12."
