Heard this from a Music guru at the Sema4 Music Festival

Paul McCartney in a car heard a Beatles cover song.
He was super impressed by the version he contacted the radio station to find out who sang the song.
The song was Eleanor Rigby
The band was Zoot

1928
The colored Jazz band Colored Idea toured Australia
Under cover cops monitored the bands activities
In the wee early hours the cops raided a flat where members of the band were unashamedly caught  drinking and dancing with white women
Disgusting for the times !
The headline the following day was
White Girls With Negro Lovers

The flak from the Australia public was so enormous that the band was later deported

1967 Ed Sullivan Show
The censors made the Rolling Stones change the lyrics to a song that was considered provocative

Original : Lets Spend The Night Together
Changed to :
Ed Sullivan Show : Lets Spend Some Time Together Rolling Eyes

1967 Ed Sullivan Show
The Doors were warned not to use a provocative lyric
Song : Light My Fire

Original
Verse in question was  :
You know that it would be untrue
You know that I would be a liar
If I was to say to you
Girl, we couldnt get much higher

The sanctioned word was higher  Rolling Eyes
Didnt stop James Morrison though, he used the word higher

This from a detective

*As a young detective attached to the Anti-Larrikan Squad in 1968 , we were called into a rented house at Burnside following a complaint of loud music from a band renting the house.
The band was called The Hart and I spoke to the lead singer, a young blonde haired man.
I asked him what he did for a living and he told me he was an apprentice plumber.
I told him he should stick to that as he would never make any money from music.*

Talk about Comic Conversations
That apprentice plumber was Johnny Farnham !

MAMAS AND THE PAPAS
The fantastic 4 comprised of
John Phillips
Michelle Phillips
Denny Doherty
Cass Elliot [also known as Mama Cass]

John Phillips did not endear himself to Cass Elliot , citing she had an unattractive plump appearance
John Phillips did endear himself to Michelle Gilliam though

Here is a 3 way chat [many years after in interviews]
It more or less depicts the formation of John, Denny and Michelle as the 3 Mamas and Papas, and ultimately 4 when Cass Elliott joined

SUZI: I dont think we had been there in San Francisco more than 3 months when little miss teeny bopper [Gilliam]meandered in
MICHELLE : I was completely taken in by the sound of the group, but I was really taken by the tall, guitar player [John] who was obviously the leader of the group
SUZI: Ahhh who is that , all in black, black coat, black dress, black shoes, you know at 16 if I done that my mother would have whipped me around the corner
JOHN: She was absolutely beautiful and err very very appealing, I was married and I was 25 years old and had 2 children and she was 16, and you know it was one of those sad stories
SUZI : She was very brazen , she was very brazen , it unnerved me, it did, and thats when I think I finally gave up on John
MICHELLE: At the beginning of the relationship it really felt it was a 'matter of time' , before he would break up his marriage and I would be there.
JOHN : I fell in love with her it was just that simple.

2 days later John left his wife and 2 kids
John, Denny and Michelle became 3
Cass Elliott later joined to form the fant 4

A lady was with her nephew and niece at Luna Park
There was an entertainer singing on stage
The lady took the kids to the dodgem cars as the queue was small mainly due to the singer
She asked a man running the Dodgem Cars for tickets
The attendant has this conversation with the lady
" Cant the rides have stopped."
" When are they starting again ?"
" When pig lips on stage stops singing."

Pig lips was Johnny Farnham
The lady with the kids was Jill , Johnnys wife !

GARY LEWIS AND THE PLAYBOYS

The group was originally called Gary And The Playboys
They added Lewis into the name
Why?
Because Garys famous father was screen funny man Jerry Lewis , it was thought that the name Lewis would give the group a more impressive profile
Soon after the band recorded the smash hit This Diamond Ring [reached 1 in the USA and 6 in Australia]
There had to be $$$ put up for the recording session
A woman called Patti put up the loot, Patti was Garys Mother
We are family !

Gary Lewis And The Playboys , one of the great American bands of the 60s

Susan Dey
Shirley Jones
Danny Bonaduce

David : Isint anyone asking why Im feeling so good ?
Susan : Your in love ?
David : Im in love
Shirley : Still or again ?
Danny : With yourself or someone else?

David has mentioned later in life that he never liked being in The Partridge Family
Susan Dey had no objections though ....

On the Ready Steady Go music show in England in the 60s
Beatles George and John were asked
" Whats your favorite record this week?"
Both said
Shout by Lulu

Lulu was 15 at the time
The little girl had Beatles pictures all over her bedroom wall at the time

When she was 16 she sang perhaps the greatest song recorded by a female singer at that time, and some might say the best ever
That song
To Sir With Love

TAYLOR SWIFT

Charlie Chaplin
Matt Damon
Ellen Degeneres
Zoey Deschanel
Johnny Depp
Selena Gomez
Janet Jackson

Apparently Swift is related to all those performers

Janet Jackson
Is Swifts 6th cousin twice removeds ex husbands sisters husbands granddaughters ex-partners sister

Charlie Chaplin
Swifts second cousin 5 times removeds husbands wifes first cousin thrice removeds ex husband

Most of the others  are cousins removed
Of the once removed, Johnny Depp is closest by number being a 7th cousin once removed

Katy Perry is not a removed relation , she is Swifts 11th cousin

LILY ALLEN
Shes pretty, shes controversial, she is a brilliant performer , shes an iffy pop star at times, and often the real wild child
Heres some Lily Allen quotations

This is what Lily had to say about her School music teacher Rachael Santesso , at one of the 13 schools she attended

" I think she kind of saw me for what I am, a child that probably needed a little bit of attention and was going about it the wrong way, I would listen to my walkman in break time and singing along to Oasis songs, she walked past and said you should really try singing and she gave me some 1 on 1 lessons and we prepared for a concert at school and I sang and all the parents they cried, said  I should start singing."

Thats how it started for Lily , and she ends up with just deserts for harmonising Oasis songs

David Cameron, the English Prime Minister once had a go at Lily for her controversial lyrics
This is what Lily had to say about Cameron
" His favorite record he likes listening to is the Arctic Monkeys and their album if Im not mistaken is all about one night stands and prostitution, but never mind"

She was once asked this question
" Is there somebody out there who you think has managed her life in the way which seems to you to be a pretty good role model, to think I must be more like that?"
Instinctively Lily replied
" Kate Bush, she just does not get involved in bullocks at all"

Of all the 21st century female singers , how does Lily Allen rate ?
Is she in the class of
Pink
Beyonce
Katy Perry
Sia Furler
