Happy Birthday to Ian "Molly" Meldrum one of Australia's entertainment industry icons.

Do yourself a favour and wish Molly a happy birthday.

Looking forward to the new special on his most curious life.

Head a song on Coast FM today

BLACK STAR
The opening lyrics were

Every man has a black star
A black star over his shoulder
And when a man sees his black star
He knows his time, his time has come

Black Star was recorded for a movie
But the recording was vanquished

The word black was replaced by the word flaming
Flaming Star became a movie name and song for Elvis Presley

After hearing the Black Star version, I think that the Flaming Star sounds better

i found this quirky little number when watching ''The Three Stooges'' in a film called ''Time Out For Rhythm'' some of the special effects must have been outstanding back in 1941....i think Pee Wee Hunts voice suits this song

On this day 1969
John Winston Lennon
changed his name to
John Winston Ono Lennon

" Yoko changed her name for me
Ive changed mine for her
One for both, both for each other
She has a ring
I have a ring
It gives us nine 'O's between us , which is good luck
Ten would not be good luck."

By John Lennon [1969]

" I must confess that Carrie Anne actually started out to be a song about Marianne Faithfull
She was unbelievably attractive
She was an incredibly sexy woman
We just didnt have the courage to say Marianne
You know because we would given away the fact that everybody wanted to make love to Marianne Faithfull."

By
Graham Nash
The song was Carrie Anne [1967]
The band the Hollies

Nash was with the Hollies
He was later part of Crosby Stills NASH and Young

" Im still waiting to get the phone call to re-do the vocal on Sunny Afternoon
Cause I had a cold and dont hit all the notes."

By
Ray Davies
Front man of The Kinks

Sunny Afternoon
Released on this day 3/6/1966

" You know I just wanted one hit so I could go and study art somewhere in Spain or something and get guitar lessons off a segovia
I really had no ambition to be pop pop star or a rock rock rock singer."

By
Ray Davies

At that stage he written You Really Got Me
He got that hit and he continued to be a musician , indeed one of the greatest

On this day 8/7/1995
A private jet had to make an emergency landing in Sweden
The reason : A goose was sucked into one of the jets engines !

British singer Rod Stewart was on that plane
For Rod it was a Brit heck land

VERA LYNN
Born 20/3/1917
Makes her 99 not out

This remarkable singer has an extraordinary distinction
In 2009 was the release of her album, We'll Meet Again: The Very Best Of Vera Lynn
Vera was 92 when this album went number one in the UK
That meant she was the oldest living singer to have a number 1 album

In a few months time she can raise the bat

Did a bus tour in San Francisco a couple of weeks ago and they took us past the Haight-Ashbury district where it is regarded to be the centre of the hippie movement in the 60s-70s.

Went past Jimi Hendrix house. Hard to miss as his moosh is painted on the side of the building. Also took us past Grateful Dead's residence, Janis Joplin and where the Mamas and the Papas started out.

Lots of record stores still trading (selling records) and still lots of psychedelic stuff all over the place. Almost like time has stood still. Round the corner is the LGBT district with rainbow flags all over the place.

Fun place!

Happy birthday to Geoff Skewes
Pianist and organist with the 1960s Adelaide band The Vibrants

The Vibrants had a hit single in 1967 with Something About You Baby
For along time I had thought Slade had sang this song

" As a child , my twin brother Glen and I used to love singing along to the songs on the radio at the time.
We joined the choir at Christchurch Grammar School in Melbourne with Olivia Newton John in my class and we went out for a week."
