BUG [2006]
No ratings, as I dont know to how to rate this movie
8.7 Ashley Judd
9.2 Michael Shannon
8.5 Harry Connick Junior

Acting is superb
Strange man meets butch girl
She should have told him to bugger off
The rest of this film had me intrigued ...

Michael Shannon reminds me of Christopher Walken

8.2 CARRIED AWAY [1996]
7.5 Dennis LEE Hopper
7.2 Amy Irving
7.2 Amy Locane

47 year old school teacher Hopper is dating Irving
17 year old blonde bomb shell Locane , an Yvette Mimueux lookalike, is his new student
A hoppertunity arises for the teacher
47 does go into 17

In 1996 Locane became 25 and Hopper 60 , so the gap was even wider in real life

Hopper was once married to Mamas and Papas singer Michelle Phillips for 9 daze !!!
His cousin William Hopper , played the part of pretty boy  Paul Drake, the private detective in  Perry Mason

8.8 HOLLYWOOD REVUE [1929]

MGM produced this early talkie
It had songs, skits , dances, sketches in a wonderful arrangement of MGM stars
Joan Crawford sang a rollicky song
Laurel and Hardy tried to be magicians , trying being the operative word

The star of the show for me was Cliff Edwards , also known as Ukelele Ike
This guy has a high pitched voice , and might have been the inspiration for Tiny Tim a few decades later
Edwards had a number one hit , that wonderful song Singing In The Rain , a song that was famously remembered when Gen Kelly danced to it just over 20 years later

There were many scenes showing girls in skimpy outfits
That was the surprise when watching a film from 1929

i watched this the other night, a few laughs along the way, the mc was Jack Benny.....as for skimpy outfits i think you'll find that the skin you saw was skin coloured clothing, similar to what female trapeze artists, ballet` dancers wear today

9.5 ADORATION [2013]
Naomi Watts 8.5
Robin Wright 8.5
Xavier Samuel 8.3
James Frecheville 9.0
Ben Mendelsohn 8.8

This absorbing movie is with a New South Wales setting
Watts and Wright are best friends
Both have sons
Both like each others sons
You ask yourself, during the movie, Watts going on ?
There is nothing Wright or wrong about being in love with each others siblings , just wrong on face value
Its one of those scripts that defies logic, but the actors/actresses make it kind of believable
Quite an enthralling movie

Real life ages of the cast at the time of the movie
Watts is about 45
Wright is about 47
Samuel is about 30
Frecheville about 22

Watts and Wright both look absolutely stunning for their ages
The years have been ultra kind to both beauties
Wright sounds a bit peculiar, with an Australian accent
Wright has eyes that remind me of Angie Dickinson
Frecheville has a minature Mitchell Starc look
Medelsohn , he is just a brilliant actor , gets a believable part in this film !

Ive rated this bizzare movie 9.5 ,others might rate it disgusting , provocative , or even sickening
This is a must see movie, if  just for seeing Watts and Wright in swimwear

8.7 SHAME [1988]
9.0 Deborah Lee Furness

Superb Australian action movie
Furness is travelling on her motor bike
She stops at an Australian outback town to get some bike repairs
Its a rough town , with rough men be she is a tough woman
Hughge problems , she gets jacked off at the men

Something has to give

8.8 DEFINITELY MAYBE [2008]

A child asks her  Dad ,  Ryan Reynolds who her mother is
He agrees to tell her  about the 3 women in his life , in flash backs and who is the biological mother

What a trifecta the 3 women , you could box them in any order
I have chosen them in order of my preference , and why
1 Elizabeth Banks [ Exceptional natural beauty ]
2 Isla Fisher [Arguably one of the prettiest Australian actresses of all time]
3 Rachel Weisz [Seductive]

Excellent script , excellent punch lines
I liked this one, Ryan Reynolds asking Isla Fisher a question when looking at her book collection
R.R: Hey how come you got so many copies of Jane Eyre?
I.F : Its a long story

The moving moment  was the playing of the song Come As You Are
A great song by Nirvana

bayman wrote:watched a film last night well just after midnight this morning  on ABC1 & it was an Australian film i had never heard of called ''Shame'' it starred Deborra-Lee Furness as a barrister on holidays & i thought she was outstanding & i googled her name as i'd never heard of her & she is married to Hugh Jackman & a young Simone Buchanan as a gang rape victim

the basic plot is the girls in the town (country W.A town called Toodyay) have been  gang raped by a group of local youths & because of the stigma it is the girls fault as they ask for it &  are sluts & so on

the barrister comes in & in time divides the town

sad twist at the end of the film & hopefully this type of thing doesn't happen anymore

worth watching, it makes you think & would be a very good film for young men to watch for an insight to the ''other side''

rating 9/10

Good summary Bayman
The dialogue was almost believable
Normally these action films are unrealistic

5.3 MANDINGO [1975]

This movie not for the faint hearted
It depicts early American slavery
At the start of the movie James Mason places hes feet into the midrift of a young slave child
It was thought that Mason could rid his arthritis by this action , and transfer it to the kid
Some of the scenes are a bit disturbing throughout in what might have been a controversial movie for its time

The one redeeming feature of this film was Ken Norton
In real life Norton once beat Muhammad Ali [1973]
At that time, Norton became the 2nd boxer to beat Ali , the first was Smokin Joe Frazier

8.6 THE OPPOSITE SEX[1956]

Where do I start ?
Leslie Nielsen is flying high as he has June Allyson, his wife and Joan Collins clamoring for him
In this movie is the whose who of the acting fraternity , some good form out of this flick

Agnes Moorehead : Later played Endora of Bewitched

Alice Pearce : Later played Gladys Kravitz the nosy neighbor in Bewitched who liked to LENd a yarn

Jim Bacchus : As  Mr Magoo and Thurston Howell The Third in Gilligans Island

Carolyn Jones : Morticia in the Addams Family

Barrie Chase : Played a dancer on Bonanza once , those legs , wow.

Back to the movie
June Allyson or Joan Collins , who is the more attractable ?
Using a Bayman cliche
You would take June home to meet Mum, but you would have more fun with Joan
I vote for sweet looker, June Allyson

This was a remake of the movie The Woman
Starring in that was Joan Crawford and Norma Shearer
This is what Joan Crawford had to say about the remake
" Its ridicolous , Norma and I might might not be bosum buddies , but we towered above those pygmies in the remake."

June Allyson eventually got the role
Ester Williams the mermaid woman was first choice
Eleanor Parker the 1000 face woman was next in line

The other irony of this film was that Joan Blondell was in it
Joan Blondell was Dick Powells 2nd wife
June Allyson was Dick Powells 3rd wife [and current at the time of this film]

The Snorkel................

while the step father has an air tight alibi, can a young girl prove her step father murdered her mother ? (if he did) as no one believes her including the police because of his air tight alibi

only goes for about an hour but it is interesting & thought provoking on how the death happened, did he do it or did she commit suicide ?

the ending is quite a relief for one of the characters

8.1 PRIDE OF THE MARINES [1945]
9.0 Eleanor Parker
8.3 John Garfield
7.2 Anthony Caruso

ELEANOR PARKER
Eleanor Parker , woman of a 1000 faces superb again

JOHN GARFIELD
Every film I see John Garfield , he plays a punk or the tough guy
In this film he falls for Parker, lucky man
The Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor
Garfield enlists , and comes back a different man

When Garfield wears a hat , he looks a wee bit like Ricky Ponting
Both Ricky and John talk very fast as well

ANTHONY CARUSO
At last Ive seen a production with Caruso playing the good guy

8.3 PRICE CHECK[2012]
9.7 Parker Posey

The Supermarket chain is struggling
Parker Posey is the new boss assigned to turn things around
Wow

Posey is not your normal boss
She is dynamite in this movie
Best way to describe her part is that she reminds me of Heather Locklear in Melrose Place

Ive given Posey a very high rating
I didnt worry about listing the rest of the cast , its all about Posey

8.1 The BIG Parade [1925]
8.4 John Gilbert
8.0 Renee Adoree
7.5 Karl Dane
7.0 Tom Obrien

Gilbert from a wealthy family enlists in the army in 1917 when the US declared war on Germany
He leaves behind his fiancee , to face a future of uncertainty
Gilbert and his mates Slim and Bull do some active duty in France
Whilst there Gilbert meets the stunning French Actress Renee Adoree , who lives up to her surname as is simply adorable

This silent film is considered one of the greatest of its ilk , certainly silent is golden
Gilbert a silent screen superstar , never made a successful transition to the talkies , takes a fancy to Renee , the caption came up as he awaited for her outside her domain read :
* That evening Jim detailed himself to some more skirt duty *

This film also exhibited perhaps one of the first nude scenes , involved Bull and Slim having a shower , baring their butts  !!!
Adoree later did a nude scene in the 1928 movie The Mating Call, which caused a degree of ooh aahs

In a bunker scene Bull peels open a can of corned beef
This is done whilst they are fighting an enemy aptly referred to as Fritz

Renee Adoree died of TB aged 35
John Gilbert died aged 38 from a heart attack
Karl Dane[Slim] died aged 47 by suicide
Tom O'brien [Bull] lived to the ripe old age of 56

They didnt have long life spans
When you watch the silents  , many of the actors would have been born 2 centuries ago

Charlie Chaplin and Groucho Marx had some time off from the studio
So they went to the zoo
As they roamed around the zoo a lion roared at them from an enclosure , almost jumping over
Chaplin bolted and hid behind a tree, and looked back at Groucho who was  watching the lion
" Hey Groucho what are you doing  there?"
" Im waiting for the movie to start"

Ive taped those Chaplin movies , looking forward to seeing him
The Zoo incident is a gag ![Lion that roars at the start of the MGM movies]

8.7 WAITING [2005]
9.0 Ryan Reynolds
8.7 Anna Faris [this rating is not inxs ]
Others were excellent as a group

This movie is a scream
About a crew of restaurant staff

One scene was :
A bitchy lady is uncomplimentary about the service and food
" The steak is medium rare
I asked for it medium
Let me ask you something , how hard is your job, how intelligent do you have to be to take a food order?"

You should not be so rude to this restaurant staff......
Put it this way what you get re-served is not on the menu

Ryan Reynolds, who is a smidge of a Ricky Ponting lookalike, was the core of the movie, this guy is a top notch actor
He was having a discussion with  a regular elderly customer
This is what the elderly man said, and Ryans response
" Im really going senile"
" Alzheimers cant be all bad, you get a chance to meet new people every day."

I thought it was a very funny movie, loved it.

Footnote
I lasted 2 shifts as a waiter in a very poshy Adelaide establishment
From that point on, I've always been understanding of waiters

Rear Window for mine. But then Grace Kelly could have switched roles with Thelma Ritter and been the "maid" and I would still have been happy.
