I only saw the last 30 mins.

But I read that it was supposed to be made in 1967 or 1968 when Jenny was 16. Therefore the delay opened the door for the director to include the nude scenes.

Not so sure that the last scene right at the end would be filmed that way today.

Lets put things in perspective
Luc Reog played Agutter's younger brother in the film
This kid would have about 7-9 years old ? , when the film was made
Was it right for the director, his father, to expose the young child to Agutter's nudist scenes ?

I think that the movie also suggested that the girl was coming of age (sexually) not just on walkabout with an aboriginal.

The whole movie is a bit of an enigma in a few ways.
There are quite a few intersecting cultural themes and relationships;
- Anglo and Indigenous
- Boy / girl
- Australia / English etc

The use of nude scenes in that mix.
With a somewhat economical use of dialogue, it is quite a confronting movie in some ways that were perhaps not intended at the time.

Quite an avante garde movie for its time.

Would it have been made in the same way if it was filmed today? I am not so sure.

I liked Walkabout being an Australian film
But had the theme been an overseas one, I don't think it would appeal to me
I'm glad I watched it

So which film did Jenny Agutter best act in ?
Walkabout
Logan's Run
American Werewolf In London

I reckon American Werewolf in London

PS
First Blood
Thanks for the reminder about the film

The Exorcist.
Recently shown on Fox Classics...

When a 12-year old girl (Linda Blair) is possessed by demons, a young priest takes it upon himself to selflessly save her at the behest of her famous movie-star mother.
Made in 1973 it was one of the most frightening movies to watch at the time. I saw it at one theater in Hindley street when it first came out (think it was the West Theater) Had you on the edge of your seat. Some scenes however would make it impossible for the young girl to survive the ordeal, such as rotating her head completely full circle. But that's what made it such a shocking type of movie at the time.
Still a good movie to watch, not one for the kiddies though.
Very good cast, great effects.

7.8 The Exorcist
I can still remember those chilling words of Linda Blair
" F..k me , f..k me."

I do recall a girl at my High School telling me how she and her friend walked out of the cinema about half way through , due to its volatile content

BODY HEAT (1981) - 8.5

10 John Barry's music score
9 Kathleen Turner
8 William Hurt
7.5 Ted Danson
7 Mickey Rourke

So poor Bill is the schmuck lawyer who falls for the alluring and beautiful rich lady. Falls under her spell and bed sheets and this is where Kathleen excels in this movie.

The sex scenes would have looked a little b-grade if it weren't for John Barry's hauntingly erotic jazz score. I gave that 10 points.

More on John Barry in the music trivia thread.

Anyway back to the movie.

Hard to describe what happens without spoilers, suffice to say the sex-smitten pair do the nasty and a further heinous crime that unravels for the lawyer.

It is all set in a sizzling heatwave of Miami with most of the characters dripping in sweat and not just from the sex.

One thing that I noted that director seemed to labour over and that was the somewhat excessive preoccupation with cigarette smoking. Maybe this is the local pastime in 1980's Miami. And this was before Don Johnson hit town!

Anyway the movie can be summarised by 2 things;
1 Kathleen Turner's alluring nakedness
2 John Barry's musical score

8.6 THE DELINQUENTS [1989]
8 Kylie Minogue
7 Charlie Schlatter

Something about Australian movies, just seem to be more real life
Set in 1957 about young love with Kylie and Charlie
But
They Were Too Young To Be Married
But what could they do they were gunna have a baby

There were the 50s relics
Bakerlite Radios
Turntable record players
Rock and Roll was revving up young kids

Kylie looked more like Kym Wilson than Samantha Jade
She was about 22-23 when she starred in this terrific film , and played as a  teenager
At times she played the Kylie Mole part
Schlatter had the Tim Finn hairdo at the start, and looked a miniature Mel Gibson from side on

There was a newspaper page shown
Melbourne topples the Pies
Barassi groin strain scare

Worth watching the flick
It changed pace a few times form loving to good times, sad times

Maybe this film was a transitional time for Kylie  from nice girl to mature girl

PS
Kylie is about to release a new song

This was about the time she was with Hutchence wasn't it?
Kylie was interviewed on ACA last night and gave a few (guarded) responses on the Michael issue.
She certainly remembered the time fondly it seemed.

6.2 PIRANHA [2010]

The fiesty fishies ate a lot of people in this horror movie right there on my TV
They didnt eat 2 players in this film
Elizabeth Shue , wow is she some sort of looker
And did not eat Steven R Mcqueen , the son of Steve Mcqueen
His Dad survived cockroaches in Papilion , and now his son survived the fish

This was an unusual horror movie
There was plenty of nudity as well, and unusual combination for a  film

I once swam in the Amazon river , with Piranhas
I even caught a few for dinner
I was at the Adelaide Airport customs coming home , was asked if I had anything unusual to declare
I said "Piranha teeth."
The woman in customs was curious
I showed the teeth to her, she showed it to the other staff
They were all fascinated

8.7 THE PRIME GIG [2000]
9 Vince Vaughan

Vaughan is an ace telemarketer whose company goes bust
He then gets recruited for Kelly Grant gang for some big time marketing
What transpires is .....

Not for the first time, Vaughan is the movie
PS
I can relate to this movie

The story describes several men struggling to survive in the Sahara desert after thier aircraft was forced down.

Starring
James Stewart
Richard Attenborough
Peter Finch
Hardy Krüger
Ernest Borgnine

Actors, all above = 10/10
Movie = 9/10

Great cast and one of my favourite movies, always worth watching  Very Happy

The 2004 remake was crap compared to this one.

Saw it again

The heat took its toll ?
George Kennedy played a placid role !

This is what James Stewart had to say about the articulate calculating genius of Hardy Kruger [Dorfmann]
And he said this in the year of the film in 1965
" The little man with the slide ruler and computers are going to inherit the earth."

Despite being in the desert for about 2 weeks ,losing weight , each persons pants fitted perfectly !

The only pity was seeing the sensual Barrie Chase doing a belly dance in a blurry mirage

Great movie

7.5 PRIDE OF THE MARINES [1945]
8.2 John Garfield
8.8 Eleanor Parker

Based on a true story of Al Schmid who joined the marines after the attack on Pearl Harbor
Garfield plays another typical 'Sal' part , Short And Loud
The man with the Ricky Ponting eyes , acts as good as Ive seen from him

Just before Garfield enlists he meets and romances Eleanor Parker , lucky fella indeed , even if it was a movie part
He comes back from war blind , and ....

The remarkable sequence had Garfield meeting the real Schmid in real life , before this movie
They became friends
Garfield lived with the Schmids for a while
He later got to play Schmid in this moving picture

The Turtles had a hit song Eleanor, but doubt if they were referring to Parker
The Troggs had a hit called Wild Thing, would be apt for Garfield

And Eleanor, the woman with a hundred faces, all beautiful, is as stunning as ever

Terrific movie

8.5 LOOKING FOR ALIBRANDI

8.5 Pia Miranda
7.5 Greta Scacchi
7.5 Anthony Lapaglia

Young Italian girl, Josie is struggling with being 17, Italian, a scholarship student at an afflluent Catholic School and trying to get the boy at the sister college to notice her for more than her debating skills.

Movie starts with the extending family's annual tomato sauce making afternoon, which Josie begrudgingly assists.

There are some very good scenes between Mother, Daughter and Nonna (the Matriach of the family) and the relationship issues that have confronted them for over 50 years.

And then Josie's Dad appears on the scene to rumble with all of these relationships.

It is years since I have seen this movie set in the late 90s, but I think it still stands the test of time in discussing the many issues that confront family units and between adolescents - the whole sex, drugs, rock'n'roll and preparing for life after school thing.

It is sort of in the mould of a Puberty Blues, but from a Catholic School point of view, but it does delve a little deeper into the relationship malaise.

Whatever happened to Pia Miranda? Can't recall too many other movies she has done.

PS Matthew Newton was in this as "the Boy" and was very good. Obviously well before his head exploded in those fits of anger.

8.1 SWIMMING POOL [2003]
8.5 Charlotte Rampling
8.5 Ludivine Sagnier

The ageless Rampling is a writer
She goes to France to write a book in expected peaceful surroundings at her bosses place
Sagnier , the bosses daughter, rolls up as well
Its not peaceful, as the younger woman is a zany root rat

Forget about the film line , its about the bust line
Sagnier is a scrawny looking little girl, that is until she appears nude, her boobs do not portray her surname ...

Rampling would be about 56-57 years old in this flick
She looks absolutely stunning for a mature aged woman , I'm not sure if I've seen a better looking actress at that age
As a young girl she was one of the best looking around
Rampling goes nude in this movie as well , for an old gal, wow !

8.1 I WANT CANDY [2007]
7.8 Carmen Electra
8.8 Tom Riley
8.5 Michelle Ryan
8.0 Tom Burke

A couple of English lads who want to make the big time producing a movie
One thing leads to another and they make a 'Sturt' movie !
And who better for this type of movie than Candy Fiveways [Carmen Electra]
Mind you Michelle Ryan looks delectable when she lets her hair down
Tom Riley has a real movie face
Tom Burke plays a modest part very well

The movie is listed as a Comedy , I found it to be one of those nice films

That terrific catchy song I Want Candy was played
But the highlight of the film comes at the conclusion of the film.
That rollicky fast paced catchy song Good Weekend was  performed by Art Brut

The movie [8.1]
Good weekend [9.7]

2.8 GENERATION UM
4.5 Keanu Reeves
7.0 Adelaide Clemens
7.5 Bojana Novakovic

Basically about a guy and 2 chicks in New York and what they get up to
Reeves has a terrible part , but is a very very good actor
The chicks did well as party girls ,
The only memorable thing about the movie was  Bojanas butt !

Novakovic born in Yugoslavia , came to Australia as a young girl , wanted to be a doctor, but chose to be an actress instead

2.8 Generation Um
9.5 Bojanas bum

Movie might appeal to some, but not for me

8.2 COMING HOME [1978]
8.1 Jane Fonda
8.6 John Voight
9.2 Bruce Dern
7.4 Penelope Milford

Its a movie I could watch time and time again
The year is 1968
Fondas hubby Bruce Dern goes to Vietnam
Voight comes home , a crippled paraplegic
Fonda meets Voight , they fall in love

This movie reminds me a fair bit of the Aussie TV show Love Child
Vietnam war, songs of the 60's
Some of the songs included Jumping Jack Flash, Hey Jude, My Girl

This is for Bayman
This was said by a soldier during the film
" Did you hear about the female peanut walking down the street.?"
" She was assaulted."

JANE FONDA
Looks good for a 30 + year old
Fancy having to go to war and leave her behind , in more ways than one

JOHN VOIGHT
For he's a Jolie good fellow ....
Seriously good actor, plays the part as a paraplegic extremely well
You see both sides of Voight , the miserable and the kind
Those offered the part b4 Voight got the part were Sylvester Stallone , Al Pacino, Jack Nicholson

BRUCE DERN
One of my favorite actors
Very passionate , very dramatic , and usually has a very very angry part
A song played in this movie sums up Stern Dern , Born To Be Wild
He obviously didnt take Valium during his part
He's married to Fonda and treats her like crapp
Then goes to war
Absence makes the heart grow Fonda , well it should have ....

Stern Dern played a lot of baddie roles in western TV shows and movies in his time
Along with Susan Hayward , he is one of the most dramatic actors around
He is at his best in this movie

Has anyone ever scene Stern Dern in a nice movie part ?
